My Story

My Story

My Story

Born in Santa Clara, Cuba, I immigrated to the United States as a child after my family fled political persecution. Growing up between cultures taught me that identity is not defined by geography alone, but by memory, curiosity, and the experiences we carry with us throughout life.

Long before I learned to read, I learned to read music. Classical piano and harp became my first creative languages while studying at New World School of the Arts in Miami. Music taught me discipline, structure, balance, and emotional expression—principles that continue to shape every artistic endeavor.

My curiosity eventually expanded beyond the arts into science and engineering. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Chemistry from Florida International University before spending more than a decade working in the medical device industry. Engineering strengthened my analytical thinking while art continued to nurture imagination. Rather than existing as separate worlds, I discovered they complement one another in meaningful ways.

Today my work exists where these disciplines intersect. I create paintings, illustrations, educational books, visual identities, and multidisciplinary experiences inspired by travel, history, architecture, nature, music, and scientific discovery. Every project begins with research before evolving into visual storytelling that encourages exploration and lifelong learning.

As someone who embraces my neurodivergence, I experience the world through patterns, connections, and details that often inspire unexpected creative solutions. This perspective has become one of my greatest artistic strengths, allowing me to connect seemingly unrelated ideas into cohesive works that invite curiosity and conversation.

These experiences ultimately inspired the creation of Color Voyage, a travel-inspired educational book series designed to introduce children to the world’s cultures through creativity. Each book combines illustration, geography, history, architecture, wildlife, traditions, language, and hands-on activities to encourage young explorers to learn through imagination.

Whether creating fine art for collectors, educational resources for families, or commissioned works for public and private spaces, my purpose remains constant: to create meaningful work that inspires curiosity, celebrates diversity, and reminds us that creativity is one of humanity’s most universal languages.
